class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Hotel \u2013 an emblematic place<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 800 years of History \u2026 before becoming one of the most beautiful 5-star hotels in Lyon!&nbsp;<strong>This emblematic place of Lyon\u2019s architectural heritage<\/strong>&nbsp;and full of history secrets was nothing else but an essential transit point of the city: its Grand H\u00f4tel-Dieu.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:15%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"my-5 wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Middle Ages<\/strong>: We must go back to the 12th century to retrace the complete history of the hotel. His ancestor, the Pont du Rh\u00f4ne Hospital was erected between 1184 \u2013 1185, on a constituent ground of the archbishop of Lyon. The Order of the Pontifes Brothers used it to welcome pilgrims and the poor people. In 1478, facing the arrival of the population, the municipality buys the building to enlarge it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Renaissance<\/strong>: The Pont du Rh\u00f4ne Hospital becomes the Hospital of Notre-Dame de la Piti\u00e9 du Pont-du-Rh\u00f4ne, or the \u201cGrand H\u00f4tel-Dieu\u201d. At that time, the plague and the famine are raging in Lyon, and it is no one else than Fran\u00e7ois Rabelais who will be appointed chief physician of the hospital in 1532.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>18th century<\/strong>: It is from 1741 to 1761 that the present building is built on the banks of the Rh\u00f4ne according to the plans of the famous architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot \u2013 author of the Pantheon of Paris \u2013 then 28 years old. He will never see his work over\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>19th century<\/strong>: Once again, the Hospital becomes a renowned surgical center in Europe. Etienne Destot practices the first radiography of history there.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1914<\/strong>: The Hospital is requisitioned by the French Army, as a military hospital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>World War II<\/strong>: The Grand H\u00f4tel-Dieu is damaged on many levels. The Soufflot\u2019s dome is totally destroyed by a fire on September 4th, 1944. We will have to wait until the 60\u2019s for sufficient funds to be raised to begin its reconstruction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2009<\/strong>: The Hospital closes permanently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2015<\/strong>: In April, the construction of the Grand H\u00f4tel-Dieu is officially launched, after the work of asbestos removal and archaeological excavations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:15%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns pattern-2-col-text-and-slider is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-bottom text-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Grand H\u00f4tel-Dieu nowadays<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to InterContinental\u00ae Lyon \u2013 Hotel Dieu, the site of the Grand H\u00f4tel-Dieu offers today a course of more than 60 000 m2 of leisure, with many shops, food halls, restaurants, bars..
